 | Before storing your bike for the winter, you want to wash it thoroughly. Especially if your state uses salt on the roads. If you do not wash the bike, you are in danger of corroding the frame. |
 | The best way to prevent your fuel system from becoming a problem is to add Carburetor Stabilizer to the fuel system. The most commonly used Stabilizer is a product named “Stabil.” This product can be found at any auto parts store. |
 | Refer to the container for the amount of Stabil that you need to add to every gallon of gas. |
| Once the Stabil is added to the gas tank, run the bike 5-10 minutes to work it through the system. |
 | Make sure that you fill the gas tank before storage. If the tank is less than ¾ full, you run the risk of rusting out the top portion of the inside of the tank. |
 | You will also need to prepare the battery for winter storage. Disconnect the leads and pull the battery out of the bike. |
 | You want to store the battery on wood or cardboard, do not store it on concrete or metal because those surfaces get too cold and can hurt the internal components of the battery. |
 | Purchase a Battery Tender at your local auto parts store. (About $30) You want to plug the Battery Tender into a wall outlet and have the battery connected 24/7. It will not draw a lot of power from your electricity, but it will maintain the battery at optimum level. |
 | If you cannot or do not want to get a Battery Tender, you will need to charge the battery at least every two weeks with a standard charger with an amperage rating of 7 or lower. |
| Once the weather gets warm, there are still a few things that you must do to prepare your bike. |
 | Change the oil. Drain the oil and replace it with 0.75 quarts of 10W-40 motor oil. |
 | You also want to replace the spark plug. If you do not have one in stock, you will need to pick one up from your local auto parts store. The brand and models that are compatible with this engine are listed below.

 | Before placing the new spark plug in the engine, put a couple teaspoons of oil into the spark plug hole.
This will ensure that the piston does not seize. |
 | Check all fuel/vacuum lines and the drive belt for any cracking or weathering. If there are signs of weathering on these parts, replace them immediately. |
 | Check the tire pressure and all safety precautions (horn, turn signals, etc.) to ensure that they are all in working order. |
| Once all this is done, you can start your bike. Let it idle for at least 10 minutes before riding it. |
